I don’t often have the opportunity to present Victorian book chains as
they are difficult to source in Excellent condition being at least 130
years old. This is one of THE BEST styled and designed Antique Book
Chain Necklace I had had the pleasure to offer and it is incredibly
Rare to find one with a Coral Cameo – they are highly sought after! This
is a high quality book chain referred to as such because it is
comprised of folded over links with the fold resembling the spine of a
book. They were popular in the mid-late 1800s and were often used to
mark the pages of a book due to their quite flat nature. They are
rectangular with scalloped edges and feature a diamond motif set upon a
patterned background on either side. What makes this extra special is
the amazing pendant at the centre which also doubles as the clasp.
The fancy shaped centrepiece features spectacular shaping
and detailing with a Genuine Coral cameo at the centre prong-set above
the pendant. It is superbly showcased by a plain, shiny border and
Etruscan detailing at the edges forming a frame. The pictures provide
the best description of all – Breathtaking!
The
V clasp slots in at the back and you just press down on it to release
it. From the bottom of the pendant are two tassel drops with a
fabulously detailed capping. These are often missing altogether.
It
has the silky smooth feel usually only associated with solid carat gold
and expected of quality antique jewellery. The gold’s hue is a warm
yellow gold with a very shiny sheen.

OVERALL
Excellent Antique
condition! For a piece its age, wear is minimal and not obvious. The
only repair I can see is to the end link to which the V-tab joins.
There is a teeny spot of solder to make it secure. It is not obvious
and being to the back, not visible when worn. There is no damage or
anything that detracts. This type of chain is incredibly difficult to
source as they are usually broken and have not lasted the distance. The
fluidity of this chain is lovely and you will be thrilled with this
purchase! A Very Rare opportunity not to be missed!
